about

In a special Bandcamp Exclusive show, Len Testa & Jim Hill walk listeners through this proposed World Showcase addition. Which came so close to being built at Epcot Center that several of the Equatorial Africa pavilion’s proposed attractions had actually completed production and were now ready for onsite installation.

lyrics

Over the course of this episode, listeners will learn about:

The three African nations who agreed to take part in the Epcot Center project in the Summer of 1979

How the oversized faux tree that was designed for Epcot’s Africa pavilion (which Disney Legend John Hench complained was too big for World Showcase) eventually found a new home at Disney’s Animal Kingdom theme park

Which props (which can still be seen along the shore of World Showcase Lagoon, by the way) were originally put in place in 1982 to hint that Epcot’s Equatorial Africa pavilion would soon be built right nearby

How many times was the “Heartbeat of Africa” (i.e., the shot-on-location travelogue that was supposed to be a featured attraction at Epcot’s Africa pavilion) screened on the Disney Lot

How the “Sound Safari” (a walk-thru attraction that the Imagineers were building around 3D sound technology) planned on making WDW visitors feel like they were a little too close to some of Africa’s more ferocious animals
