Aaron makes some great points on the piracy and cutting off the nose to spite the face argument. The counter argument floating around Studios for years is they feel they are where the music labels were in 1999. They see dropped revenue for non-blockbusters and feel piracy is eating their lunch. ITunes offered a crazy idea in 2001: instead of making no money on a albums ripped for one MP3, why not make 69¢ (while iTunes keeps 30¢)? The roadblock has been how do Studios do this without iTunes?
